I'm trying not to let the 7 hour wait for the ferry turn me into a negative nancy about this trip (now we know, reservations when coming back from a tiny island are DEFINITELY the way to go) because Orcas Island was beauuuuutiful! Definitely makes me appreciate when we fly to the island, yes you have to watch the weather, and you might get totally trapped if it gets too cloudy or windy... but at least it's all on your own schedule :)
We stayed at Doe Bay, a campground/resort recommended to me by a friend when we first moved to Washington. It fills up fast, so it's something you have to actually plan ahead for (not our strong suit) but totally worth it for the peaceful location, awesome soaking tubs, and great food. We loved meandering around the on-site farm in the morning and saying hello to the chickens.
We brought road bikes along with us, and were not ready at all for how insanely hilly the island is. We biked up to Mountain Lake and must have climbed 1500 ft on the way there... tiny, winding roads and fast cars... oh boy. Apparently mountain biking is the much cooler thing to do there, so next time we'll have to try that out.
