Took Sarah out on her first ever backcountry ski tour this weekend, wooooo!! We prepped a few weeks ago with an avalanche course, and have been waiting for a weekend with low/moderate avi danger before heading out on a teaching tour.
We couldn't have asked for better weather. Warm temps gave us (almost) corn-ish snow, bluebird skies, and the Baker backcountry was the only "low" spot in all of Washington this weekend... what luck! We took a leisurely tour up to artist point, checking out lots of real-world examples of avalanche danger and past avalanche activity, skied a moderate line down the edge of Austin Pass, and anded with our own little beacon rally.
