After many months of research, and a few weeks of waiting for orders to arrive in Portland stores (tax free), we finally picked up our new mountain bikes!! Since we were making the drive to Portland anyways, we decided to make a weekend of it with super super scenic biking and camping near Mt. Hood.
The “Timberline to Town” ride, which goes from the Timberline ski lodge parking lot down to the town of Government Camp, is 6 miles with 2000 feet of descent and some of the best views I’ve ever had on a bike. There’s a shuttle from the town up to Timberline every 3 hours or so, but we opted to ride the road up and get a bit more cardio on the 2000 feet of climbing. Once you’re on the trail, it’s nonstop downhill, but only has small obstacles (little root drops and rock gardens). I had a blast getting a feel for how the bike handled at higher speeds, super comfy and flys through obstacles, but still very predictable and not squishy.
