This weekend we took the ferry up to Orcas Island for some rustic relaxation at Doe Bay. We visited a few years back, and loved the farm to table meals and the earthy camp vibes, but this time was even better. I planned ahead and got ferry reservations (much less waiting), and also upgraded a bit to one of the small cabins with a wood stove (super cozy), but the real highlight was the mountain biking. The trails were some of the most scenic we’ve been on yet… with sweeping views of the sound, old growth forests, and SOOO MUCH MOSS. The climb up was a little bit brutal, but had great views along the way, and there weren’t too many cars since peak tourist season has passed. We opted to take some of the less direct trails back down, making a big spiral back down the mountain. Total travel time was around 4.5 hours, but I definitely could have spent longer. We had to get back for a dinner reservation, but otherwise I would have loved to spend even more time cruising around the trails by the lake near the top of the mountain.
